My Journey

Every author's journey starts with a spark. Mine began with a lifelong love of two things: the quiet magic of the woods and the loud laughter of children. I spent years spinning tales for the little ones in my life, realizing that the best stories are the ones that make us giggle while secretly teaching us how to be better friends. Writing under the name Heidi Bess allows me to fully step into this whimsical world and share it with families everywhere.

Creative Process

How do I write? Well, I like to think I have a bit of both Barnaby and Pip in me! I usually start my mornings like Pip: with a tidy desk, a perfectly organized outline, and a sharp pencil. But by the afternoon, the Barnaby in me takes over! My desk is covered in crumpled paper, my teacup is empty, and I’m joyfully following the characters wherever their messy imaginations take them. I believe the best stories are written with a mix of careful planning and wild, untamed fun.
